The slasher: Norbert Siegmann will not be remembered

The slasher: Norbert Siegmann will not be remembered in Werder history because of his goal in the 1981 promotion season, but because on August 14, 1981, in a Bundesliga home match against Arminia Bielefeld, he ripped open Ewald Lienen's thigh with his studs.

The slasher: Norbert Siegmann will not be remembered in Werder history because of his goal in the 1981 promotion season, but because on August 14, 1981, in a Bundesliga home match against Arminia Bielefeld, he ripped open Ewald Lienen's thigh with his studs. The 25-centimeter gash exposed the muscle sheath. Lienen accused Otto Rehhagel of having instructed Siegmann to play unfairly.

The consequences were so dramatic that Rehhagel had to sit on the bench at the return match under police protection and in a bulletproof vest because of a death threat.
